Tim was looking forward to Halloween as always. He was once again meeting up with friends to go around Trick-or-treating. He was already decided on his costume: the Headless Horseman, complete with false head to carry under his one arm.
He was just about to start changing into his costume, when his mom entered his room.
“You might want to reconsider your costume tonight.” she said.
“Reconsider?! I've been working on this costume for months.” he replied. “What will my friends think if I don't turn up?”
“Son, I have something very important to talk to you about, and you must listen.”

Adrian stepped off the train, looking around for his Aunt. He was an orphan, and had previously been living with a distant Uncle. After his parents had died, he had been moved around from place to place, shunted around with no control. He was tired of it. Anyone he was sent to live with almost immediately sent him away again. His Aunt had originally refused to take care of him, but now, for some reason, had changed her mind. He didn't really care, though. He knew he would be sent away again in a few days.
